BMW M1 30th Anniversary

Thirty years ago, at the 1978 Paris Motor Show, BMW’s “M” Division presented its first ever creation and at the same time, the Bavarian carmaker’s first and last mid-engine supercar, the M1. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and developed in association with Lamborghin, the M1 was initially intended for the racetrack.

The road going edition was equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter straight 6 generating 277 PS that allowed it to reach a top speed of 260 km/h or 162 mph. Apart from being one of the most beautiful BMWs of all time, the M1 is one of the most exclusive as only 451 examples (others say 455) where built between 1978 and 1981.

BMW has planned several events throughout the year to celebrate the M1’s 30th birthday, including the creation of a special stand at this year’s Concorso d'Eleganza exhibition at Lake Como where it will show off production and racing versions of its iconic supercar.

Corvette C6 Competition: Euro Market Special Edition Version

Here in the States, we all know how much American carmakers love producing special edition versions of their sports cars; time for Europeans to learn it too. Corvette Europe announced today the introduction of a limited edition version of its LS3 6.2-liter V8-powered C6 Coupe that will be available in the market this April.
Created to celebrate Corvette’s double victory in the GT1 category in Sebring, the C6 Competition features air scoops with honeycomb pattern in the front grill and in between the double twin exhaust pipes at the rear, a Z06 rear spoiler and 5-spoke alloys (18 inch at the front, 19 inch at the rear) in the color Competition Grey. Available solely in black, Corvette has limited the number of available options on the C6 Competition in order to save as much weight as possible.

GT Coupe concept

We’re gearing up here at Carscoop for this year’s Beijing Auto Show which is expected to host a wide variety of premieres from Chinese and other car manufactures. Up until now, Geely has announced two debuts for the Beijing car show in April. Apart from the GT Coupe concept that we showed you yesterday, the Chinese automaker will also present the GE MPV which looks like it was partially inspired –that’s a phrase we’re going to hear more than once- from the European Ford Mondeo. Other than that, we don’t have any information whatsoever on the mid-size minivan, but we’ll try to find out more later on.

Alfa Romeo’s 159 GTA model

It’s been a while since we last heard of any news concerning Alfa Romeo’s 159 GTA model. The vehicle in this amateur video looks very similar to the one that made a guest appearance in several car magazines last year –see here. Still, we must say that we don’t have any feedback from Alfa Romeo officials that the company is actually planning to introduce a GTA version for the current generation 159. In other words, the car filmed here may just be a test bed for a new Alfa Romeo engine and not a prototype for the GTA.
