The 2012 Buick Verano has a refined styling with a sporty profile, luxurious interior, and a powerful and efficient engine. "Verano expands our lineup, continues Buick’s momentum and gives us a great opportunity to attract a new generation of customers with a product that delivers on their expectations for design, performance and technology," said John Schwegman, vice president of Buick marketing.

Verano is only attainable with front-wheel drive.Like the Regal, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine equipped with direct injection lurks underhood and devolopes 177 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. The Cruze, meanwhile, uses different engines altogether – either a normally aspirated 1.8-liter or a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Interestingly, the Ventiports on the Verano's hood are false advertising, with six holes to suggest there's a six-cylinder engine underhood.

Either way, Buick says the larger four-cylinder is estimated to achieve 22 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. To sweeten the pot, Buick also says that a turbocharged 2.0-liter four will be available after the Verano's initial launch, and while we don't have any details on this engine, we'll bet our bottom dollar that it's exactly the same one that's used in the Regal.

Official pricing will surely be announced closer to the car's on-sale date near the end of 2011. If early reports are to be believed, however, expect the Verano to be priced around $21,000 for base models, going as high as $26,000 for cars with all of the trimmings. The C111 was an experimental vehicle by Mercedes-Benz that featured a four-rotor Wankel engine. It never made it to production although Mercedes did follow with successor concepts.Mercedes C111, a car that was globally lauded back in the day for its revolutionary Wankel diesel engine. Despite the number of prototypes that were made, the C111 never became a production model and soon thereafter, it was lost in the yard of discarded concept models, never to be heard from again.

The Ciento Once proposal includes a tubular space frame chassis with a Mercedes M120 V12 engine producing 408 hp (304 kW / 414 PS) and is coupled to a 6-speed Cima H type trans-axle.the original at 103 inches (2616 mm) and weight is similar at 1,400 kg (3086 lbs).The interior of the Ciento Once resembles the original from the 70's with some updated features: carbon fiber seats covered in plaid, instrumentation modeled after a W120R MB (including the radio and the a/c control unit), brushed aluminum pedals, dashboard accent, and illuminated door sills.

The power plant is a M120 Mercedes V12 engine with 408 HP, which can be admired trough a glass on the rear deck. The robust engine is paired with a 6-speed Cima H type transaxle and a special tuned exhaust.The Ciento Once will feature a slightly shorter wheelbase than the original (103 in) and maintain the weight around 1,400kg. Assisted by the upgraded suspension with coil-overs, to adjust the ride and height, and the same braking set up as the S55 Mercedes Benz, this car will definitely be fun to drive.

New World Record: Tesla Roadster Goes 347.2 Miles On One Charge

The owner of an all-electric Tesla Roadster from Texas has set a new record for distance traveled on a single battery charge: 347.2 miles or 555.5 kms.

The GPS log of the trip, completed on a closed circuit in California last week, has been posted as proof, but Tesla Motors hasn’t officially verified the new record.

The record is for a production vehicle — no extra batteries or special modifications allowed. The roadster is special in one way; it was the 1000th car to roll off the Tesla assembly line. (Hence its license plate: VIN1K.)

The car, which can reach 120 mph, didn’t set any speed records on this journey. The two-person driving team maintained a nearly constant speed of 25 mph.

The previous record distance traveled on one charge in a standard production Tesla Roadster was 501 kms or 313 miles set during the 2009 World Solar Challenge in Australia. Tesla Motors puts the official range for the roadster at 244 miles on a single charge.

Mercedes is developing Mega City car to match rival BMW

According to a recent report, Mercedes is developing a new car to battle the BMW Megacity.

Tentatively dubbed the Megacity Mobility (MCM), the vehicle will feature aerodynamic styling which is being created by the company's Japanese design studio. Furthermore, initial reports suggest the car will use an electric powertrain and ride on the next-generation Smart ForTwo platform.

As we have previously reported, the 2013 BMW Megacity will feature a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) body and a 150 hp (112 kW / 152 PS) electric motor. It will be powered by a 35 kWh lithium-ion battery and have a range of approximately 100 miles (161 km).

Toyota Prius US sales up 33 percent in December 2010

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., report hybrid sales in December rose 14.2% by volume to 20,522 vehicles, up from 17,964 units in December 2009. TMS 2010 full year hybrid sales dropped 3.3% by volume to 189,147 units (from 195,545 in 2009).

The Prius mid-size gas-electric hybrid posted best-ever December sales of 15,253 units, up 33% by volume over December 2009. Prius logged 140,928 units sold for the full year, up 0.9% from 139,682 units in 2009.

Prius thus represented 75% of all TMS hybrids sold for the year; 8% of all TMS vehicles sold in the US during the year; and 14% of all TMS passenger cars sold in 2010.
